With the recent Occupy Wall Street protests spreading nation and even world wide, The Oregonian covers the protests as they spread to Occupy Portland. The protestors are located in Terry Schrunk Plaza with no plans of being removed anytime soon, and the Portland police say they have no reason to end the occupation.
Over ten people showed up to the protest and chained themselves to a barrel filled with rocks. While the number or protestors has varied, it remains fairly steady at a non-violent group of ten.
The protestors claim to share their rights without harming others, however, there have been requests for centralized leadership among the group to avoid a mob mentality.
"That's our form of freedom of speech," said Bob Todd, 53. "That's how we hold our government accountable."
The protestors later joined in a march from the Occupy Portland site to the Pioneer Courthouse where all involved cooperated with police and remained non-violent. Unlike other larger scale protests, many are impressed with the non-violent and focused driven aspects of Portland.
